Course of treatment

Initial consultation

A detailed consultation takes place during the initial consultation. We start with the medical history and discuss your concerns, wishes and your treatment goal together. We check how we can implement these requirements in the best possible medical way and discuss the course of treatment.


Diagnosis

If you have decided on Invisalign treatment, we use an intraoral scanner to create a three-dimensional image of your dentition, showing the upper and lower jaw. In addition, we also take photos and x-rays to ensure that you receive the best possible treatment.


Planning

In the next step, we plan your orthodontic treatment and create a 3D simulation that allows you to follow the change in your teeth step by step and from every perspective. When you are satisfied with the planned result, we start the treatment. Based on the computer model, the transparent Invisalign aligners are then custom-made.


Treatment

Shortly after, you will receive your custom-made Invisalign aligners. You should wear each set of trays day and night for about 1-2 weeks and really only take the trays out to eat, drink or brush your teeth. Make an effort to wear the aligners 22 hours a day. At regular check-ups we will check that the gentle and gradual movement of your teeth is taking place according to the treatment plan, and if necessary we will attach appropriate attachments to your teeth.


Retention

Congratulations! After wearing the last pair of aligners, you've made it! In order to ensure that your teeth do not move back and that they retain their new position, we now begin with retention. Who is Invisalign suitable for?

How long should I wear the aligners?

You should wear the aligners for 22 hours a day. So always wear the aligners day and night and really only take them out to eat, drink and brush your teeth. The aligners are made of a special, transparent material and are therefore hardly visible in everyday life.


Can I talk, eat and drink with Invisalign?

You can speak with the Invisalign aligners without any problems and you will hardly even notice them. Only at the beginning you may need a short period of adjustment (a few days), during which a slight lisp may occur.


You can also drink without any problems with the aligners. However, to avoid tooth damage and discolouration, we recommend that you avoid sugary drinks and coffee or take the aligners out for a short time.


You should always remove the aligners when you eat. Please make sure to brush your teeth thoroughly before putting the aligners back in to reduce the risk of your teeth becoming infected.


How long does the treatment take?

The length of treatment depends on several factors, especially the type and complexity of the treatment and how often you wear your aligners. The average duration of Invisalign treatment is 6 to 12 months - but often treatments can be completed much sooner. Initial results are usually visible after just a few weeks.


What are attachments?

Attachments are small tooth-coloured bodies that are bonded to your teeth and later removed. Attachments can be important to move your teeth into the desired position.


Are the costs of Invisalign treatment covered by insurance?

Some social insurance providers (health insurance companies) cover the costs of Invisalign treatment. However, whether and to what extent the costs are covered depends on the provider and the degree of malocclusion. Private insurance providers usually reimburse the costs partially or even completely if the service is included in their insurance tariff.


What happens when I am finished with the Invisalign treatment?

After the treatment is completed, we check the success of the treatment and remove the attachments if necessary. To ensure that you maintain your beautiful and healthy smile in the long term and that your teeth do not move back to their original position, we need to support the teeth with suitable retention. This can be done either with a fixed retainer, a metal retention brace that is bonded to the inside of the teeth, or with a special retention splint. Retention is especially important in the first year after treatment. For a long-term beautiful smile, we recommend lifelong retention.


I have worn braces before. Can I still use Invisalign?
